My sister-in-law, Heidi and I were witnesses to a fatal accident, and something both of us wish we never had seen. I was driving Heidi home, after a fun filled afternoon, and we were waiting at a red light at the intersection of New Bingham Highway and Airport Road. An SUV traveling eastbound slammed into a minivan that was attempting to turn left. Since we were the first car at the cross walk it happened right in front of us. Even though it’s been five months since the accident, I still remember seeing the person in the front passenger seat slumped over, when the driver opened his door to get out and assess the damage. It was a dark cold night, and I remember the sirens and all the flashing lights, and the sound of the life flight helicopters landing behind my car. The SUV driver was fine, but the family in the minivan had some serious injuries and the mother who was in the front passenger seat died at the scene. My heart goes out to all those involved in the accident, and to the emergency personnel who responded to the scene. I didn’t think the accident would bother me as much as it did. I had nightmares for awhile, and the sounds and scenes would replay in my mind. I don’t I will ever approach an intersection ever the same again, especially one with a yellow light. Be careful out there! (Some of the pictures are from my cell phone and the others were from the web.)
This was after they cut the roof off the mini van to get two of the kids out.

Here they are cutting off the roof of the mini van to get the two kids out.
