This afternoon the girls came over while Heidi was resting and Sam was busy working. I gave them some sponges and water and sent them outside to clean my patio furniture. By the time they were done their clothing was soaking wet, but they seemed to have fun.

More Balloons
Balloon Festival, August 11, 2007
On Saturday, August 11th, Sandy City had their first Hot Air Balloon Festival. Karlee, Katie, and Kortney all slept over and we got up at 6 AM, so we could be there for the launch at sunrise. It was colder than we thought it would be, but I think once they started inflating the balloons the girls forgot about the cold, and seemed to enjoy themselves.

The Martin Harris Pageant, August 4, 2007
Another first for mom and I in 2007, the Martin Harris Pageant in Clarkston, Utah. Clarkston is really out in the middle of nowhere, and basically a farming community. And at night, it is very, very dark, which is great because you can really see the stars. Before the pageant there was a brief lecture about the life of Martin Harris. The pageant is next to the cemetery, where Martin Harris is burried. The pageant portrays the time when Martin Harris worked with Joseph Smith translating the gold plates, becoming one of the three witnesses, and publishing of the Book of Mormon. It gave mom and I a great appreciation for his life, and all that he went through.
Newton, Utah
The graves of Grandma Larson's parents.

On our way to the Martin Harris Pageant we drove through Newton. This is where Grandma Larson was born and raised. We saw her house, and took a picture of it. We also stopped by the cemetery and found the graves of her parents and grandparents. It's a very small town, with only one store.

Our Tour of Logan
While in Logan we stopped at some of the places listed on the Cache Valley Food Tour Brochure, as well as the historic Logan Tabernacle. We visited Cox Honey and tasted different flavors of honey, and saw a working beehive. (All those bees, is a creepy feeling!) We stopped by the BlueBird Cafe, which felt like stepping back in time. It is a restaurant, and has a soda fountain, and candy counter. We found out later that Grandma Larson use to eat there! We got ice cream at The Aggie Ice Cream store. It was a very popular place, especially among the elderly generation. I think mom's favorite place was Gossner cheese, she came prepared with a list of things she wanted to buy. They had samples to taste, but I miss the Cache Valley Factory. It was a fun afternoon that was very tasty and filling!

Sam's Birthday Cake
Sam has had the same birthday cake since he was a small kid, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and M&M's all over. However, I think now his own kids get more excited about the cake then he does. Here are some pictures of Karlee, Katie and Kortney putting M&M's on Sam's birthday cake. Happy 33rd Birthday Sam!
Float Preview
On Monday, July 23rd, mom and I went to the Float Preview at the South Town Expo Center. Not all the floats were there for the 24th of July Parade, but many of them, and it was fun to see them up close, and some were pretty amazing! While there we ran into mom's brother and sister, Dirk and Jodi, and their families. It was a fun and unexpected surprise.

Timpanogos Temple, July 21, 2007
On Saturday, July 21st, we attended a session at the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. We went in the afternoon, and I was surprised how very busy the temple was. After the session mom and I decided to eat in the temple cafeteria, but I didn't know that they only take cash or checks, until I got to the end of the line to pay. It was an awkward situation, but the lady end up being nice enough to let mom and I eat, and then bring her a check for our meal. A lesson learned, always bring cash or my checkbook to the temple, if I'm going to eat!
